On Writing

I love finding blog posts about writing and there's been quite a few lately that I've found interesting. So here you go.

JM McDermott has an essay called "The Long Wait" http://jmmcdermott.blogspot.com/2010/04/long-wait.html where he gnashes his teeth at the long wait most zines impose on our stories. It was nice to hear someone voice the complaints we all have but can do nothing about if we want to published in the higher end zines.

Juliette Wade has an interesting post on world building that speaks to all the genres, not just fantasy. Some very interesting thoughts here http://talktoyouniverse.blogspot.com/2010/04/world-building-is-not-just-genre-issue.html

Now if you're easily offended by bad language, please skip the next link, but I found this a fun post. Written by Chuck Wendig its called "New Writing Technique: The Rectal Thunderbolt" Mr. Wendig makes some good points while keeping you chuckling. http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2010/05/03/new-writing-technique-the-rectal-thunderbolt

Back a while ago the anonymous writer of the Mysterious Matters blog posted some tips on writing cozies. When you click on the today's link you'll find some tips for writing hardboiled. http://mysteriousmatters.typepad.com/mysterious_matters_myster/2010/05/writing-the-hardboiled-keep-it-edgy.html

I also ran across Eric Rosenfield's blog Wet Asphalt the other day where he has a post about magazines worth reading. He has a list of zines and links where you'll find some interesting markets for your work. You've got to love it when people make lists like this. http://www.wetasphalt.com/?q=content/fiction-magazines-worth-reading-2010

Several of these definitely sound worth checking out. I'm not offended by bad language!

Me either, Charles. I live in a male dominated world where that kind of language is just adjectives and verbs, but others get offended so I tend to post warnings.
