StoryHack - Open for Submissions

StoryHack is now open for submissions.  They're looking for action and adventure stories of 2000 to 17,500 words, open to most genres so long as there is action and adventure.  The deadline is January 1, 2019 and payment is 1cent a word.  You can find the details here.

Selene Quarterly - Advance Warning - Open for Submissions

Selene Quarterly will open submissions for their next issue on December 1 to December 15, 2018.  It's a short window so I'm posting early.  They're looking for speculative romance, mystery, and alternate histories stories of various lengths.  For drabbles they pay 6cents a word, flash of 101 to 1000 words they pay 1cent a word, and for shorts of 1001 to 1500 words they pay 2cents a word.  You can find the details here.

Grumpy Old Gods - Anthology Call

Editor Juneta Key has posted an anthology call for "Grumpy Old Gods".  She's looking for speculative fiction stories of 3000 to 4000 words featuring Mythical Gods who have retired.  Humor is a plus for this anthology.  The deadline is January 13, 2019 and payment is a royalty split.  You can find the details here.

Arsenika Magazine is open for flash fiction and poetry submissions.  They're looking for stories up to 1000 words.  The deadline is December 15, 2018.  Payment is $60 for flash and $30 for poetry.  You can find the details here.  While they don't specify genre you can read stories online to get a feel for what they're looking for.

Who Knocks? - New Market

Who Knocks? Magazine is currently looking for submissions for their first issue to published in January 2019.  They're looking for stories of 1500 to 5000 words in the genres of mystery, weird tales, suspense and horror.  Reprints are welcome.  Payment is 1cent a word with a $50 maximum for original stories and $25 max for reprints.  You can find the details here.  You'll also note that they have an anthology call but there is a $16 reading fee for that.  There's no fee to submit to the magazine.

Dark Regions Press - Anthology Contest Call

Dark Regions Press has opened submissions for their latest anthology contest.  They're looking for psychological horror stories about individual possessed by internal and/or external forces.  Word count is 10 to 10,000 words.  The deadline is January 31, 2019.  Seven stories will be chosen and paid from a prize pool of $2000.  In order to enter you have to sign up for their newsletter which has the complete guidelines for submitting.  The link for the newsletter is on the page I linked to above.

Thuggish Itch - Open for Submissions

Gypsum Sound Tales has opened submissions for their Thuggish Itch  anthology collection.  The theme this time is theme park.  They're looking for stories of 1000 to 4000 words in the genres of horror, science fiction, and speculative fiction.  The deadline is December 28, 2018 and payment is AU$5 for stories under 2000 words and AU$10 for stories over 2000 words.  You can find the details here.

Death's Head Press - Open for Submissions

Death's Head Press has posted three anthology calls, two are currently open and the third opens on December 1, 2018.

The first is untitled but the theme is Revenge.  They're looking for dark fiction of 3000 to 8000 words.  The deadline is January 31, 2019 and payment is $10.

The second is "Rope Burns".  They're looking for erotic horror of 3000 to 8000 words.  The deadline is February 28, 2019 and payment is $10.

The third is "Breaking Bizzaro".  They're looking for weirdness stories of 3000 to 8000 words.  This one opens on December 1, 2018 with a deadline of March 31, 2019 and payment is $10.

They will also open for novel, novella, and short story collections in the genres of dark fiction on November 15, 2018 and will close on March 31, 2019.  Payment is 50% royalty split.

Blood Hound Books is currently open for submissions of crime and mystery thriller novels over 60,000 words.  There are no pay specifics listed.  They also mention that they work with an agent to sell film rights so be careful of how your contract reads if you submit.  You can find the details here.

Space Opera Libretti - Anthology Call

Space Opera Libretti is seeking space opera short stories of 2500 to 7000 words for their anthology.  Their guidelines will give you a better idea of exactly what they're looking for.  Reprints are acceptable.  The deadline is December 31, 2018.  Payment is 6cents a word if they have a successful KickStarter and royalties if not.  You can find all the details here.

Hidden Things:  Stories of Crime & Horror is a new anthology looking for stories of 3000 to 5000 words that blend crime and horror.  The publisher is Down & Out Books.  The deadline is December 15, 2018.  They will have an indiegogo fund raiser and are aiming at paying 6cents a word plus royalties but all depends on how well the fundraiser goes.  You can find the details here.  Sorry it's a facebook page.

Shock Totem - Open for Submissions

Galli Books - Anthology Call

Submissions open today for UK based Galli Books anthology "Rosalind's Siblings".  They're looking for speculative fiction stories of 500 to 7500 words about people of marginalized genders/sexes who are scientists.  You don't have to be a marginalized writer to submit.  The deadline is December 1, 2018 and payment is 8cents (pounds) a word.  You can find the details here.
