L'ivoire Press - Call for Hunting Stories

L'ivoire Press has issued a call for hunting stories for their four book anthology series.  There isn't a deadline or word count listed, and you don't have to be a professional writer to submit.  Payment is $1,000.  You can find the details for submitting here.  I found this call in a newspaper sports column which has a bit more information.

Wow, a thousand bucks! For that kind of dough maybe Hemingway will come back from the dead to write hunting stories for them.

Wonder if their books have an ad or two in them, to offset the cost? Maybe mystery-crime anthologies could run an ad or two to cover a few bucks of costs. I doubt readers would mind, especially if the ads were for mystery books, magazines, etc. The advertiser would only reach a small audience, of course, but definitely an interested one.

I’m not a hunter, unless you count hunting for lost socks from the dryer, so no chance of the thousand coming my way.

Yes, it's a pretty narrow market, Peter. Their subscription rate for the four books is, if I remember correctly, $120 so that will help with the costs.

But they also have a pretty big market arena if they advertise in all the sporting magazines and get the word out to the sportsmen.

If I had 1,000 dollars to blow I'd be soliciting authors. I'd imagine some of the big boys would come out to play for that money.

... and big girls, I might add.

Yep, even the big girls can play. My first big (money wise) short story sale was to Pennsylvania Sportsman :)
