Weird Blog Requests

I wonder sometimes why some authors feel the need to lie when they're seeking reviews.  Today I received a request to review a fantasy book on my blog The Drowning Machine.  The author claimed to be a dedicated reader of the blog, which seems quite odd since there's been nothing posted since 2014 at The Drowning Machine and they only reviewed crime/mystery fiction.

You authors out there would be better served to actually read a blog that you're sending a request to and see what type of books they review.  And getting the blog name right would be a step in the right direction of getting a blogger's attention.

Yeah, if it wasn't so sad, I'd probably be laughing.

I get FB messages and contact form emails from publicists often, it's rather pathetic. I think I've reviewed a handful of books on my personal site.

That is sad, but it's even sadder that I never heard the term "drowning machine" before. That'll stick with me.

I don't get very many, Thomas, but it's always clear that the writer hasn't checked out my site. Plus I don't do reviews as I'm not very good at it :)

The Drowning Machine was a great site, Manuel. They reviewed books and once a year hosted a crime writing competition. Lots of fun. I miss them.
