A penny a word was enough for a prolific writer to make a living, back in the Depression. But short stories were a much bigger part of the entertainment world back then.
Yes, they were, Manuel. Every type of magazine usually had a short story or two. I miss that. Not from the Depression days but still, when I was a kid in the fifties they were still publishing a great many of them.
