Mind Writing

Have you ever gone to open a story file and discovered that the full-blown story in your head hasn't made it to the page yet? I've been piecing together scenes and ideas for a story the last few days and went to do some revisions only to discover that I haven't actually written the darn thing yet. Oh well, at least I know where to begin - just open a file and start typing.

I never actually had the situation where I thought I had written things down, but I am 100 % always thinking about the story at hand and writing notes on anything that I have handy at the time. I have lots of word docs in a folder, some only have a sentence or two in them. Once in while I'll check through them and find an idea I totally forgot about.

I do that also, Sean. I'd opened several files this week and was sure I'd opened one for this story but...nope. I do love when I've found a story idea I'd forgotten though. It gets the brain churning.

What i hate is when I forget the title I put on it and can't find it.
Then I find one that I have no idea about writing. Scary days.

I've never taken those types of drugs, Sandra ...

I know that feeling, Patti! I've started writing file names like Patti Flash Challenge or the story idea. Makes it easier to find if you can't get back to it right away or you've got two or three stories going at the same time. Of course, some of those files I open and wonder what I was thinking.

You should really try it, Paul - they make for great stories if you ever remember to write them down. Of course in thirty years, you'll understand perfectly. :)
