An Editor Seeking Advice from Writers

Editor Oren Litwin is seeking feedback about asking writers to donate $50 to his next KickStarter in exchange for getting a one-page critique of their submission, and the chance to resubmit.  He can see the drawbacks but he also sees some advantages for the writer.  Stop on by his blog and let him know what you think after you read his post.

I left a very polite comment. At its worst, this is charging $50 to submit a story. This reward should not be tied to stories for the anthology being funded. It's too easy to think paying for a critique gives you a better chance of acceptance.

I like what the man is doing with publishing anthologies so more people can read short stories. His first kickstarter was only for $1000 dollars - enough to pay the ten writers each $100, so he isn't trying to get rich with his projects. I think he honestly wants to help writers with the critique idea. He's now posed the question if it would be better to offer a critique for another story instead of one submitted to the anthology. I think that might be a better idea.
