How True?

There's a very interesting piece up at The Guardian that asks the question "How True Can Crime Fiction Be?"  The essay is written by Steve Mosby.

As writers we use so many parts of the real world that spins around us it's good to stop and wonder if we're being responsible to those people whose lives have been affected by the tragedies we see and read about.

This is one of the reasons I've never been able to read true crime. The thought of the real people involved.

Yes, I sometimes feel that the writers of true crime are making money off of someone else's grief. And yet, there are people out there who want to understand why bad things happen and so there is a market.
