Michael Bracken sent me a link today that pretty much sums up how to write the best story that you can. Thank you, Michael!

And a new issue of Plots with Guns has hit the virtual streets today. You can check it out here http://www.plotswithguns.com Lots of stories with familiar crime fiction names such as Dennis Tafoya, Frank Bill and Kieran Shea. Just out of curiosity, Mr. Smith, when can we expect to see an all female issue?

Boy, ain't that the truth. How many all-male issues have there been now?
Great stories but gee whiz.
I went back through the issues a while ago and found that there were only three or four stories by women out of eight issues. The odds aren't good for the ladies!
It tends to be the same in most of the noir markets, too. Crimefactory has three issues up with one lady per issue but I see that's changing with the all fiction issue that's coming up. ATON has only seven female writers in the long list of authors they publish. ThugLit has the most balance but still have a bigger male to female ratio.
Maybe we just don't write dark and mean enough? Or maybe we're just not submitting enough?
