Cutting Block Press has opened submissions to their Tattered Soul 2 anthology. They're looking for dark horror stories of 6000 to 25000 words. the deadline is October 31 and the pay is 1.5 cents a word. Rates for established authors is negotiable. While checking out the site I found another anthology call. This one for Horror Library vol. 5 which opens for subs on June 1. This one is looking for dark fiction of 1000 to 6000 words. Also on the site I found a link to a zine called Dark Recesses Magazine http://www.darkrecesses.com which is also looking for submissions of dark horror. They want stories of 500 to 5000 words. For our Filipino writers there's an anthology call for spec-fiction stories that revolve around the myths, legends and folklore of the Philippines. They want stories of 3000 to 7000 words. They're looking for short stories that blend supernatural and paranormal with modern communication technology in any genre. 3750 to 5000 words with a June 30 deadline. Thanks for the links and I believe YA anthology is through L&L Dreamspell. Usually they pay a small stipend when the anthologies are released then royalties.
You're welcome, guys! And Conda, I went back to reread the guidelines and the editor is hoping to place the anthology with L&L, which means it's not a done deal.
Not to rain on anyone's parade but an anthology without a publisher already lined up doesn't always get published. I've bumped into a couple of those that never did find a home.
Dear Lord. Horror, darkness, paranormal. Are there any crime anthologies looking for stories anymore with a different angle? (I know there are, Sandra, but we seem to be swimming in horror these days.) Wish I wrote it. Well, not really.
The Cutting Block Press and Dark Recesses zine are horror, but they're looking for work more along the lines of Alfred Hitchcock if I'm reading their guidelines right. They don't want the gore and slasher stuff. I would think that noir crime stories would be a good fit for these markets, Barb. And no, I'm not running across any straight crime anthos except for Tony Burton's so far this year.
