Anthology Call - A Hand of Knaves - Australian Writers
This one is for Australian writers only and submissions don't open until August 1. That gives you a good month to come up with a great story for The Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild's anthology "A Hand of Knaves". They're looking for speculative fiction stories up to 5000 words that feature the "knaves" as the protagonist. And yes, they explain exactly what they're looking for in the guidelines. Dakka Press - Call for Podcast Submissions
Dakka Press is seeking short stories and audio plays in any genre (PG 13 level) for their online podcasts. They're paying 1.5cents a word with a cap at 3500 words though you may submit longer pieces. Their minimum payment is $20. You can find the details here. This one is for Manuel who asked me a long time ago to find him a market for radio plays :) I finally found one.
Flame Tree Publishing - Anthology Calls
Flame Tree Publishing has posted two anthology calls, on for "Pirates and Ghosts" and the second for "Agents and Spies". Stories should be 2000 to 4000 words. The deadline for both is July 7. 2017 and payment is 6cents a word. The good thing about this short notice call is that they'll be taking reprints as well as original work. Unnerving Magazine is open for submissions of dark fiction of 400 to 2500 words for a Halloween issue. The deadline is July 14, 2017, payment is 1cent a word. They also have an anthology call for "Hardened Hearts" where they're looking for difficult love stories of 600 to 3000 word. The stories can be any genre including crime fiction but they must be dark. The deadline for this one is "until full" and payment is 1cent a word. Trisha Faye - Non-fiction Anthology Calls
Editor Trisha Faye has posted two no-fiction anthology calls on her site. The first is called "In Celebration of Sisters". They're looking for uplifting essays about sisters of 1000 to 1500 words. Payment is $50 and the deadline is June 30, 2017. The second is called "Mothers of Angels". They're looking for essays of 1500 to 3000 words from mothers who have lost a child.
